AN EXPEDITION TO EXPLORE NEW FRONTIERS OF SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY
WHEN TO GO
DECEMBER - FEBRUARY
FLIGHT TIME FROM LONDON
THROUGH THE EYES OF THE WORLD’S GREATEST LIVING EXPLORER
For the first time, the world’s greatest living explorer, Sir Ranulph Fiennes OBE, will join a private journey to Antarctica, recounting his extraordinary experiences in this inhospitable wilderness. On a single journey, the varied perspectives of glaciologists, marine biologists, ecologists and adventurers will coalesce to reveal deep and truly unique insights.
EDGE OF THE WILD
Touch down in Santiago, Chile. A team awaits to ensure a seamless onward journey by plane to Puerto Natales in southern Patagonia. Transfer to a luxury lodge cradled by the peaks of Torres del Paine National Park. Spend the evening acclimatising to Patagonia’s photogenic wilderness.
Strike out on a day of exploration in Torres del Paine, 700 square miles of snow-capped peaks, azure lakes, forest and glaciers. Ride Corralero horses across deserted pampas as morning sun bathes the mountains, then connect with expert local guides to discover the park’s finest views along high-altitude trails. A sunset flight affords inspiring vistas of the park’s namesake trio of granite towers aflame. After dark, unwind around the fire, gaucho-style, for an authentic Patagonian barbecue.
THE VOYAGE OUT
Fly by charter to King George Island in the South Shetlands. Embark for the Antarctic Peninsula aboard Legend, an ice-breaking superyacht equipped with twin helicopters, submersible and tenders. Passage to Deception Island, Antarctica’s most active volcano. From the air, enjoy panoramic views of the flooded caldera, last erupting in 1970. Bathe in geothermal waters before a cleansing polar plunge. Enjoy a celebratory welcome dinner in the company of the elite expedition team.
At Cierva Cove, Graham Land, join the world-renowned experts as they study the climactic fragility of Antarctica. Observe glacial calving up close from a Zodiac craft with Prof Julian Dowdeswell. Track the identifying flukes of whales with Professor Ari Friedlaender. Sir Ranulph leads a helicopter expedition on to the untrodden Sikorsky Glacier. Back aboard Legend, dine with Sir Ranulph and hear tales of his own trailblazing Antarctic endeavours.
SIR RANULPH FIENNES
Sir Ranulph Fiennes stands alongside Scott, Shackleton and Hilary in the pantheon of great British explorers. For five decades, Sir Ranulph has led expeditions across the most inhospitable regions of the world, testing the limits of human endurance in a life of extraordinary adventure.
