Tue 15th Carrot and Stick presents COMING SOON + The Wave Pictures + Darren Hayman
Doors 8.00 Stunning 7 piece French folk-rock band Coming Soon perform their debut UK tour. Coming Soon include members who also play alongside Kimya Dawson in Antsy Pants and have featured in the chart-topping soundtrack to the hit movie Juno. The Wave Pictures are grizzly, accomplished, and totally down to earth. They have an unassuming and modestly expressed gift, able to thread a song wrapped round tight melodic themes. Their imaginative lyrical ideas are thoroughly refreshing and take no prisoners, the sound is vintage, wise and very cool, it can't help but wash the whole trash-indie-disco thing right out of you. Darren Hayman, once the king-pin of Hefner, here playing solo with both old favourites and new songs from his forthcoming second solo album Secondary Modern. The lyrics as usual are precise, emotive, direct, heartbreaking and amusing all at the same time. The theme of suburban ennui and aspiration from his last two albums continue this time with a particular focus on schools and education inspired by Darren's recent short career as an Art Teacher. |
