Belleruche produce handmade hip-hop-blues-soul. Like Sarah Vaughan, Django Reinhardt and Cut Chemist stuck in a lift with Russian beer and a sampler. The band's new album provides a fuzzy snapshot of the Belleruche trio's different approach to music and production – combining heartfelt melodies with twisted scratched drums, snap sharp snares with chopped vintage basslines, and vinyl soul with hook filled songs.
The tracks on 'Turntable Soul Music' conjure thoughts of Stax Records recording Django Rheinhardt with Dr Dre controlling the mixing desk. Or Eryka Badu jamming with Mixmaster Mike recorded onto analogue tape by the Dust Brothers. |
